Typical Weather in Prague in August

Average daily temperatures: August weather is very similar to July, especially in the first half of the month, but temperatures are usually slightly milder. Average daily temperatures range between 19–24 °C (66–75 °F). On hot days, temperatures can reach up to 30 °C (86 °F), but they gradually begin to drop. Mornings and evenings are somewhat cooler than in July – around 14–16 °C (57–61 °F), although sometimes warmer.

Rain and precipitation: Rain is still relatively frequent in August, but it usually comes in the form of brief showers or thunderstorms that don’t last long. The average rainfall total is around 60–70 mm. The month is still well-suited for outdoor activities, though it's wise to carry an umbrella or raincoat.

Daylight and sunshine: August days gradually shorten. The sun rises around 5:45 AM and sets at about 8:15 PM. Still, Prague enjoys approximately 7 to 8 hours of sunshine per day, which is more than enough for walks and excursions.

Recommended Clothing

Summer weather in August mainly calls for comfortable and breathable clothing, but beware – especially at the end of the month, evenings can be a bit cooler. What should you pack?

Light clothing – t-shirts, shorts, summer dresses are still best for most of the day.

A light sweater or jacket – for the evening or cooler mornings, or if the weather turns.

Comfortable shoes – ideal for walking through the city or short trips nearby.

Sunglasses and a hat – sun protection remains important, especially if staying outdoors for a long time.

Umbrella or raincoat – for occasional August showers or more persistent rain.

Sunscreen – the August sun can still be strong.

Summer Evenings by the Vltava

August evenings are perfect for sitting by the river. We recommend visiting Náplavka, where you’ll find bars, food stalls, and often pleasant music.

Many cultural events take place in August – for example, Letní Letná (a festival of new circus and theatre), concerts in parks, and movie screenings in outdoor cinemas.

A Trip to One of Prague’s Viewpoints

Thanks to warm weather and good visibility, it's worth heading to Petřín, Vyšehrad, or Letná – ideal spots for a picnic with a view of the historic center.

Stromovka, the Vojan Gardens, or the gardens below Prague Castle offer shade, calm, and visual beauty. A perfect choice for relaxing on a hot day.

Day Trips Outside the City

August still has plenty of daylight and warmth for trips into nature – Bohemian Paradise, Posázaví, Karlštejn, or the Koněprusy Caves offer nature and historical sights.
